Dev Log 3: Heritages

SWORD IN THE ABYSS

Summer Planning

Before we get onto the main topic of the dev log, we wanted to mention that throughout the summer thus far, we spent a large margin of our time planning out a roadmap for Sword In The Abyss, including a Kickstarter, and what it can bring to the table if it were to succeed. I can’t say much about the Kickstarter right now, but expect news about this in the next few months.

Heritages

During the early stages of development we were certain that we wanted to implement a race/ancestry/heritage selection system that provided some form of customization. In the process, we created the Heritage system.

A heritage is more akin to a bloodline your champion was born into, and or some kind of experiment that your champion was exposed to. The player gets to decide how their champion appears visually, but the heritage itself will apply some gameplay mechanics to the players. This includes the initial stats of the champion, major callings, a natural skill, and a skill selection choice that is unique to them.

Some of the stats can be customized through the rules provided, and a Hybrid Heritage may also be created out of any two heritages available. If a hybrid is chosen, one heritage acts as the base for stats and a natural skill, and you may choose a skill choice or a natural skill from the second heritage chosen. Choosing to be a Hybrid does come at a cost! You will gain the permanent unique statuses of both heritages chosen.

In the demo version, there are currently only 7 Heritages available. These heritages being the Human, Dark elf, Light Elf, Dwarf, True Goblin, Fairy-King and the Ferric. We will slowly introduce the players to new heritages with the release of the Core rules, like the Blood Vampires and the Drowned.
